Subramanyan's visit at a glance
India's preeminent artist and scholar K G Subramanyan was in Bangladesh on a ten-day visit attending a string of events designed to celebrate culture and the arts. Subramanyan inaugurated the three-day cerebration marking Zainul Abedin's 96th birth anniversary at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University.
The event occasioned a reception of this veteran regional modernist whose work had once provided the necessary impetus to the then emerging languages seeking to speak in an indigenous voice.
He also inaugurated the '101 Artists' workshop at Dhaka Art Center, and was accorded a reception at the launch event of Depart, where he attended as chief guest.
