Depart is a bi-annual published from Dhaka, Bangladesh, with the principal aim of providing the much-needed critical reinforcement to the burgeoning art scene of the country. Conceived a site for raising and debating issues, Depart is also a repository of knowledge and ideas which matter most in the current context of the violence, change and financialization.   

Depart’s raison d’etre is close and contextual reading. Dialogic in its stance, Depart aspires to give a fuller treatment to the subjects showcased within its site by way of providing evaluation and re-examination of the visual and written texts. As an evolving site, Depart is determined to face the challenges of bringing into view the artistic and cultural trajectories of this region in the light of both history and social structure. Each edition of Depart comes with the promise of addressing the crucial crossroads made in the arts and theory.

Depart is a venture planned and financed by Art & Bangladesh, an organization launched in 2008 with a view to playing a catalytic role in today’s changing creative milieu. Promotion of art and artists of Bangladesh is its foremost concern, and its activities include leveraging of existing resources as well as exploring new avenues to create opportunities for change and growth.
